Citizens Online Banking: My Experience With Citizens Banking

While you probably know the basics about Citizens Online Banking, such as the ability to access the account from anywhere and at any time, pay bills, etc, you might know the specifics of their accounts. Here are more features to help you make an informed decision on whether Citizens is the company for you.

One of the nice features you can get with citizens online banking is overdraft protection, and is something I highly recommend. With this, you don’t have to sweat it out if you accidentally overdraw from your account, and find it below the limit.

Without overdraft protection, some huge fees would be added, but with overdraft protection (which actually isn’t all that expensive) your account is safe.

It’s very easy to transfer money from one account to another, whether it be your own or someone else, and as long as they have a citizens online banking account, you can do so free of charge. Obviously, you have to pay when transferring to another bank, as they want as much money kept with them as possible, but this is true of any bank.

You can also set your payment schedule for up to twelve months ahead of time, and also set up alerts that will tell you when the time has come to make your next payment. Without these, you very well could forget, but these will ensure you always make your payments in a timely manner.

Also, if for some reason you want to access what you did in the past with your account, such as debits and credits, you can view it for the past year and a half, and this can often come in handy for businesses or personal accounts, who don’t keep track of their income and expenses.

If you don’t track your income and outgoing cash flow well, you run the risk of being audited, but just providing your bank account is often times enough to prevent this from happening.

Also, if for some reason your bank account is hacked into and transactions are made by someone else, assuming you notify them within two business days, you aren’t on the hook for any of the money. this is why it’s so important to have the alerts set up which can let you know if there has been suspicious activity on your account.

If so, as long as you let them know within this allotted time, you should be fine. I have used them for several years now without any incidents, and Citizens online banking is definitely one of the better online banking services available nowadays.
